Youth Groups

Awake To Know Africa believes that every youth matters and that as young people are our future leaders, their involvement and empowerment are very important. We work with youth groups, church groups and uniformed groups.

Our highly skilled and talented facilitators use our African resources materials to engage young people and empower them to become who they want to become and contribute positively to the wider community.

Drum beats – Drums and drum beating are traditional methods of communication associated most commonly with Africa but also featuring across many cultures.

The use of the drum is not only rhythmically enhancing but is also a type of therapy. Drum Therapy is an ancient approach that uses rhythm to promote healing and self-expression. From the Shamans of Mongolia to the Minianka healers of West Africa, therapeutic rhythm techniques have been used for thousands of years to create and maintain physical, mental, and spiritual health.

Music as therapy is an increasingly recognized method when working with those who are learning disabled. Drumming can have a calming effect on those affected by Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD).

The relationship that exists between drum beating and simple and more complex Mathematics makes it a significant learning tool.

Dance workshops – young people will love our dance workshops. High in energy and rhythm there is something for everyone. Music and dance have been shown to be highly beneficial to young people’s physical, emotional and social well-being.

Carnival workshops – festivals and celebrations are very important in all cultures. We hold workshops to help develop your groups carnival presence through drumming, dancing and costumes.
